4th XI Match Reports 2016
Bexleyheath (4) 137 all out (39.3 overs) OD Cuaco (4) 98 all out (32 overs)
Scorecard
So we eventually made it to Bexley grammar school with eleven, although Raj was an hour behind! By Thursday we only had eight so a good job done.
The skipper lost the toss, dropped their second best batsman on nought and scored only one! He also, in making an umpiring decision upset one of their senior players so much that player would not speak to him!
So a very strong Bexleyheath team. Their South African only playing because his best mate is a four and two young quick bowlers they have recruited from Bexley Park ones and hopefully they will be promoted. So strong bowling and batting.
An excellent bowling and fielding performance in the heat and we got them all out for 137. Couch 10-5-15-3, McNamara 10-0-36-2, Boyden 9.3-1-30-3, Phil Parke 4-0-33-0 and Raj 6-2-9-1.
Catches for Henry Hamilton, Steve Sawko, Tom Mcnamara. Tom and Mick Boyden combined in a run out and Howard had two stumpings. Excellent fielding and in particular this week it was Louis Boyden who stood out. Not often Henry gets topped!
The batting against a very good, in fourth eleven cricket, attack was not so good. Russell Egan Wyer (25), Henry an excellent knock (15) and H last man out (14) were the top scores.
The one big event in our innings was Russell swinging and missing at a wide which the keeper missed, then when starting for a run for the wide fell on the stumps! I, in my infinite umpiring wisdom told the oppo he was not out as it was a wide. Hence their fella refusing to speak to me. On consulting Tom Smiths when I got home it did take me a while but it appears I should have given Russell out. I have emailed their skipper with my apologies but not the bloke who doesn't like me!
Many thanks to Anne Webster for scoring and no wooly hat this week!

4th XI V Dartford 28th May
scorecard
The Fourth Team played this week thanks to the great efforts of the two Andy’s, Hall and Rouse. Also with the Third Eleven match being conceded by the opposition the Club declined the opportunity to load the Fourth Eleven.
They were led by their young innovative skipper and found themselves in the field. Couchy bowled his usual miserly spell but is clearly feeling his age as he refused to bend down and field off his own bowling. At the other end Fin Irvine bowled five excellent overs and his wicket taking ball was an absolute peach. Mick Boyden replaced Fin and bowled a mixture of long hops, half volleys and full bungers and finished with 4 – 26! Raj bowled a nervous two overs with a wicket in each.
I must say the high point on Saturday was the excellent fielding which was way above Fourth Eleven standard. Brilliant catches were taken by Phil, Robin and Henry and the ground fielding and field placing was of the highest standard.
We chased 81 and it was left to Russell Dirty-Pads to see us home with a painful 35* helped by some majestic stroke play by Big Phil who seemed to master their leggie from the word go.
Many thanks to all who helped set up, take down, umpire and score. Much appreciated.

Saturday 25th June 2016 - Vs Beckhenham 4th XI
With the Home side top of the Division, rain forecast, outdoor changing and an al fresco tea the day was set up for an exciting game. Our skipper had a cunning plan. Win the toss, put the opposition in to bat, wait for the rain, match abandoned, points shared. He hadn’t allowed for the all-weather pitch in his cunning plan. Suffice to say 80% of his plan fell into place. In fact having mentioned percentages nearly 90% of ALL matches in the SNKCL and the KRCL were not completed although ODCuaco C C finished all of their four Fixtures.
The opposition batted first and marmalised our bowling attack.Clearly a Team in the wrong Division. However we dropped the guy that got a hundred three times and missed three other chances. Not quite up to our high standard of our previous match. However the bowlers stuck to their task manfully and Steve Sawko and Louis shared ten tidy overs during the onslaught. We were helped by the long grass that seemed to slow up every shot along the ground. At one stage we lost both David Vigus and the ball in the grass and they ran a ten!
Tea and in we went to bat. Chasing 212 for 2 (Centurian retired unwell but ate a hearty tea) and after 15 overs (we played 30 overs a side) we were 9 for 2 but then the cunning plan started to materialise. We had thunder and lightning Martin Couch had not seen or heard of in over 100 years. We all smiled smugly thinking of points shared. Eventually the rain stopped, sun came out and one of their chaps produced a broom, swept the wicket and off we went finishing at 44 for 8 completing a most pleasant afternoon.
The KRCL does the most brilliant service to local cricket but matches like this teach our young men very little and surely can’t be enjoyed but either side.

OD Cuaco (4) 93 - 8 (40 overs). v Bexleyheath (4) 96 - 4 (18.5 overs)
The fours met the clear league leaders, won the toss and elected to bat. We knew Bexleyheath were strong but didn't quite know how strong!
Their young opening bowler had apparently spent 2015 in Australia. The previous season playing for Spencer against Wimbledon in the Surrey Premier League he took his best bowling figures, 5-16!! He has actually played six seasons in the Surrey Premier League but Bexleyheath decided to give him his first game playing for their fours! Unbelievable!
At the other end was a young lad who for the previous two seasons opened the bowling for Bexley Park first eleven!
Their second change bowler was the leading wicket taker and run scorer in this division last season!
Pretty strong. After fifteen overs we were 17-5. Harry Dean (33) was joined by skipper Bob (8 in 52 balls!). Harry took the score to 54 before being out. Sawko (9) trod on his wicket and Michael Oprych (4 not out) and Howard (11 not out) saw us through to 93.
Harry Deans (7-3-19-1) and Michael Oprych (4-0-32-2) opened the bowling and made inroads. Raj (5-0-23-1) got out their best batsman and Mick Boyden unluckily finished with (0-17).
A superb catch by Andy Parker and two good catches for Raj and Mick Boyden plus excellent fielding. Particularly Phil Parke, Dave Vigus and Ariez helped. Unfortunately Ariez who had had a bug all day finally succumbed and the last ten overs we were down to ten.
Although the scores do not reflect it we played well against a very strong fourth eleven (!) opposition.

OD Cuaco 4's. 179-5 (40 overs) Dulwich 6's. 149-8 (40 overs)
What a brilliant weekend. For the first time this season we were able to put out five teams and 55 happy players.
This meant the fours were as strong as for quite some time and gave an excellent account of themselves against a pretty strong Dulwich side, the only team to beat Bexleyheath this season!
Our new opening partnership of Russell Egan Wyer (45) and Mick Boyden (56 not out!) put on 88 for the first wicket in the 22nd over so an excellent start. The surprise was that Mick has morphed into Laurence Sanders! But his innings was the glue so job done.
We then had brisk cameos from Tom Rathborn (16), Mani Sethu (13), Ariez (7) and Phil Parke (5). Will Black scored five from only two balls so the skipper should have batted him higher!
Our opening bowlers Martin Couch and Will did an excellent job in taking wickets and keeping them behind the rate. Martin unfortunately had to come off mid way through an over with a very sore shoulder. This meant two injured fielders in him and Russell but the whole team fielded well.
Steve Sawko replaced Martin and had a really good spell but the inept skipper took him off too early and he took a bit of tap on his returning over. If the skipper had kept him on this wouldn't have happened.
Raj came on and it was normal service with two wickets and not many runs. Mick Boyden didn't get any wickets but again was miserly even though they were going for it. Ariez came on with two wickets and the job was done.
Excellent keeping by Tom with only three byes coupled with catches for Ariez, Will and Steve contributing to a solid effort.
The all round star was Will but all the bowlers figures were good.
Couch. 6.2-3-18-1
Black. 10-2-22-2
Sawko. 4.4-0-31-0
Boyden 5-0-23-0
Ariez. 4-0-20-2
Many thanks to Anne for scoring. If only I could keep this team every week!!
