COVID-19 Club Updates
Recreational Game Update: Date: 31st May 2020
Last night the government confirmed that groups of six can meet outside from Monday June 1st, provided people from different households observe social distancing (staying 2m apart). This applies to England, with the First Minister of Wales today announcing that people from two different households in the same local area can meet outside.
While this is good news, it is not an immediate 'go' for organised team sports. We are having discussions with Sport England and DCMS about what this means specifically for cricket, to then understand how we can support our clubs to initiate plans to get people back playing cricket.
Yesterday ECB published guidance for the professional domestic season, which will not restart before 1st August.
Recreational cricket will work to a different timeline, but one that again, will be guided by changes to Government advice. We continue to work with DCMS to see its phased return, and it is our hope that we can provide opportunities to play to everyone this summer.
For now the recreational game remains suspended with no cricket to be played with the sole exception of, in England, the ability to use outdoor cricket facilities (nets & pitches) for the purpose of undertaking exercise.
Like all fans of cricket, we wish to see our players, from every part of the game, safely return to the field as soon as possible. With the brilliant spell of weather we have enjoyed lately, we too understand the immense frustration an absence of playing is causing. Thank you all for your patience, as we, alongside everyone else in society, abide by the timelines we have been given by the Government.

Chairmans Message:
Dear Member of OD CUACO CC,
I hope you are well and keeping safe. Below is information regarding the impact that Coronavirus is having on the club.
We are appealing for everyone to continue to provide support, through subscriptions, donations and fund raising.
Without this, we have a very uncertain future. At the moment, the ECB have announced that all forms of recreational cricket be suspended for the foreseeable future.
We are hopeful that cricket will restart mid season,(Colts cricket will be extended all summer) but there will be a financial impact for the whole season.
Over the last few years OD CUACO have invested heavily in our facilities, artificial and grass nets, water tank and irrigation, and recently the relaying of the square. The Old Dunstonian Sports Club ( our revenues support their overheads; land, buildings, ground staff salaries and equipment) are also investing in major improvements to the club house.
Our budgets, fees, fund raising and subscriptions didn't plan for Coronavirus.
Membership fees are our lifeblood, without these we have an uncertain future.
We are therefore appealing to all players(senior and junior) to still pay subs for the coming year. Colts not playing adult cricket are reduced by 50%.
We appreciate that the season if far from guaranteed, but we are pleading with your generous natures to support the club in difficult times.
The reduced rates for subscriptions are again available, if paid by monthly DD or before May 1st. Anyone taking up this option(or already on DD) will also have subscription prices frozen for 2021 (we expect increases)and also have reduced match fees when the season gets underway.
Seniors £144
Concessions/Juniors £72
Juniors (not playing adult cricket) £36
(increasing to £156 & £78)
DD links are on the website , or the clubs details are:
Account Number: 40432628
Sort Code: 20-49-81
Once again, we thank you for your help, generosity and understanding in these difficult times.
Finally, it goes without saying that these are also difficult times for families and individuals. If you have financial issues or problems, please don't hesitate to get in touch .

The Club has confirmed that in line with ECB recommendation, all forms of recreational cricket under the management of Kent Cricket are for now suspended. Please adhere to any advice given and make sure to look after the vulnerable, loved ones and other OD CUACO members in the coming months.
The ECB statement issued at 2:10pm today reads:
“Following the Government’s latest advice around social distancing, it is with sadness and reluctance that we recommend that all forms of recreational cricket are for now suspended. This extends to training, pre-season friendlies and any associated cricket activity. Sport plays an absolutely vital role in the nation’s mental and physical well-being, and it helps people find meaning where there is fear and uncertainty, so one of our goals in the coming weeks will be to explore ways that we can support some levels of physical activity in communities – particularly at junior levels. Using our cricket community to support others could be one of the most important services we can offer during the difficult next few months. It will be critical that any decisions we do make are medically-led. And we will continue to work with Government and their advisors to ensure we are informed by science in our decision making. Over the coming weeks we will work with the game to understand what support is required across the cricket community, particularly local clubs and leagues. We understand that countless hours of work from thousands of volunteers have already gone into getting ready for the 2020 season and we know how disappointing this will be. We are thankful for the huge role that volunteers play in local cricket, to ensure the game remains at the heart of communities. We know that you and your clubs can play an important role in bringing your community together once we get past this period of time.”
England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
Kent Cricket’s Community Director, Andy Griffiths:
“Across our network of over 300 community clubs and 200 schools, there are a huge number of coaches, volunteers, players, umpires and groundsman that ensure that cricket remains at the heart of the local community. Clearly, at this time, our priority is the health and welfare of everyone who watches, plays, follows and supports community cricket across the County. Whilst it is hugely disappointing that community cricket has to be put on hold, in the current climate, and in-line with Government guidance, this is the right decision. We take our responsibility to nurture and grow the community game across Kent very seriously and we will keep local clubs, players and officials updated."
