Match Reports - Sunday Friendly 2011
Sunday Friendly home to Churchleigh Sunday 14th August
OD Cuaco 178 for 6 C.Webster 71 R.Bond 37
Churchleigh 132 all out S.Hunter 4-31 Hider 3-29
I know I haven't done a report for a while and I apologise for that and this one will be like a batting innings in the 1st team short and sweet!
We lost the toss and were put into bat on a firm wicket, which looked like it had enough to please both batsman and bowler. With a new opening partnership of Jessop and Bond the crowd looked happy as the runs flowed..................mostly extras! Jessop was bowled by a good in swinger and so began a stunning innings from chris webster. A partnership of 130 was put on before chris was bowled and ross shortly followed a quick tumble of wickets had the team declaring on 178.
After a lovely tea the boys set out on the task of taking 10 wickets. Things didn't look good as alex brown injured himself and had to retire from the field however he found us a replacement in the form of marc woods. The wickets then soon fell calum hider bowling a fantastic spell taking 3 wickets. S.Hunter then came on 'to mop up the tail' taking 4 wickets. Billy rouse also bowled well and was unlucky to only take 1 wicket.
Well played the boys and the only victory of the weekend! Thank you to anne and hazel for the lovely teas as always and thank you to all spectators for cheering the team along.
Sunday Friendly at Old Brockleians Sunday 19th June
We turned up only to find we weren't expected. A triangular tournament had been arranged.

Sunday Friendly v Earlswood Strollers Sunday 12th June
Where to start..........
As expected the weather was awlful most of the morning however an early pitch inspection was taken and both skipper and vice skipper agreed the pitch was still playable. The opposition arrived and the rain continued to pour down. The toss was taken (in the rain) and won by the oppo who, surprise surprise, decided to bat. The two captains decided very quickly to shorten the game to a T20 game. The players very reluctantly began to get changed. The team was at that point down to 9 players. Steve Smith had not turned up, so we turned to an unlikely hero....................Mr. Lee Pemberton!!!! He quickly put a spare pair of whites on and had he not been wearing a black hoodie underneath his white shirt he would have at no point looked out of place. Steve Smith eventually appeared, explaining that his bike had decided not to work!
The team made their way out on to the pitch. This is where things went a little wrong!
In the wet conditions the bowling was good...........to start with. Sam Carp the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 30. One of the oppo's batsman managed to smash both Woods and Hunter for at least 60 in two overs with some huge sixes. The Oppo managed to smash 215 in their 20 overs. With their opener scoring 100 being dropped 3 times even safe hands ross dropped a catch!!
Tea was taken and rain came down again the game was FINALLY cancelled!!!
I must give a huge huge huge thank you to Lee who gave up his Sunday afternoon to play cricket in the rain, his fielding was outstanding though we are going to get him a pair of shinpads for his next game!!! He would also like people to stop hassling him to play now has he fulfilled his promise that he has played 1 match this season!!! Thank very much Lee!! Thank you also to Ann and Hazel who at the last minute managed to put together a scrumptious tea with and I quote 'The best cakes ever!!!'
As you know we are still very short on a Sunday and we had some people who had never even played cricket or even members, so please please please make yourself available it is unfair on those who do only to find games being cancelled because we cannot get a team out!!! As we know our batting needs work so if anyone wants time in the middle against 'easy' oppositions can they let Simon Hunter know on 07557688829
Thank you!

OD Cuaco v Petts Wood, Sunday 22nd May
With the team still unbeaten the boys went in to this game with their tails up. With the added bonus of 80 netball players turning up later on in the afternoon. With a dropped catch off the first ball already things looked interesting and it wasn't long till the opening wicket, with Ainger taking a smart catch of Hunter. Marc Woods bowled a very tidy spell and ended with very good figures. He could have had another wicket had the skipper not dropped the batsman who went on to get a century. Simon Hunter bowled well taking two wickets. The other Hunter (now finding his rhythm as a bowler?!) Luke Hunter again bowled 4 very tight overs, and John McLaughlin bowled well taking a wicket too. The boys fielded well and did superbly to keep the score below 200.
With the return of our usual opening partnership things began to look good. With the team 100 for 0 at drinks Andrew Ainger scored a well deserved 70 and Ross Bond 60 (two 50's in a row possibly a good signing for fantasy league?). Graham Ward and Andy Rouse saw us home with 4 overs to spare. The Sunday team still unbeaten and looking very strong so far, and I would like to thank everyone in the team hugely for their continued support! Thanks also go to Bezza Ward for scoring and Mrs. Hunter for fantastic teas!
Bring on catford cyphers............

Sunday friendly v Roan Lambethans Sunday 15th May 2011 at home
The toss was lost and we were straight out to field. The team was built up of mostly youngsters and Ross Bond, with a few new faces - Matt Kemp (w/k) and Taylor Emblem. Simon Henley and Alex Brown started, each picking up a wicket in the first few overs. By drinks the oppo were on 120 for 3 and firmly in control. Wardy and S. Hunter came on but failed to make an impact. With the oppo now 180 for 3, the skipper needed to make a change and with a few laughs from the boundary the ball was thrown to L. Hunter. He made an instant impact, surprising the batsman with a loping straight ball, the key batsman skied the ball to Brownie, who put his conversation with the spectators on hold, and took a sublime sliding catch at long on. Wickets then tumbled as 'safehands' Ross Bond took 3 catches and John McLaughlin taking a brilliant catch too. The wickets went to Simon Henley 1, L.Hunter 1, Alex Brown 2 and S.Hunter 3. The oppo ended 207 for 7.
Ross Bond (86) and Lawrence Saunders (76) batted very well for an opening partnership of 150. Both performed well not giving a single chance to the oppo. Unfortunately, the game came down to the wire needing 10 off 6 balls and Taylor Emblem did his best but the team could only draw the game with just 203. Man of the match must go to Ross Bond for his magnificent 86, reminding the 1st team of what they're missing and 3 very well held catches, very impressive!!!!! Well played everyone - still undefeated. Thank you for all your continued support and let's try and beat Petts Wood next week. Thank you to Ann and Hazel for the lovely teas and to Beryl Ward for scoring.

Sunday friendly v Horton Kirby 1st May at home
With the team only just managing to get 11 out with Jake Caddy coming in late Sunday morning the team seemed raring to go. The boys bowled and fielded well and the opposition could have got a lot more runs had the teams heads gone down. Pick of the bowlers was Chris Webster who only went for 16 runs in his 6 overs unfortunately he was unable to pick up any wickets. Marc Woods picked up 2 wickets and 2 catches, Alex Brown 1 and Simon Hunter 3. The oppo managed a huge 243 for 6.
The team did not despair even with losing an early wicket, Ross Bond hit an impressive 41 which set up a good run chase. Steve Smith (73) and Simon Hunter (35) put on an 89 run partnership, this helped the lads to put on an exciting end with Alex Brown (24*) and Dave Vigus (10*) just falling 9 runs short of the huge total. The team ended on 235 for 9 and a well deserved draw. Thank you's must go to Andy Parker who umpired, Beryl Ward who scored, Brian who very kindly kept the bar open through out the day and of course Ann and Hazel who put together a fantastic tea time!! A huge thank you to the 11 players who played.
As I said above please make yourselves available for this coming Sunday away against Streatham and Marlborough.
