Hayes at home
So after a long break from the field and a result to try and bounce back from (to bad to even write about) the friendly team took on Hayes CC. The skipper lost the toss but was happy as he revealed he would have bowled anyway.
Hunter and Woods both opened and were brilliant from the start and the first wicket came when the ball was smashed at mid off and Steve Smith took a great grab and plucked the ball out of the air. And one brought two as Hunter.S managed to swing the ball back in, and the batsman left the ball only to see it hit the top of off stump. Marc Woods was the pick of the bowling just hours after football pre season training, Woodsy bowled a superb 13 over for 52 runs and 3 wickets. Calum Hider bowled 9 balls and took 2 wickets and was also very dangerous. Jake Owen could have had a few but was denied by 'the sun' (if you need an explanation ask Luke hunter).
The oppo were bowled out for 132.
Tea came and went. Lawrence Saunders opened the batting with Scott Williams. Scott went early and Steve Smith and Lawrence saw us through just needing 18 from 10 overs. Luke Hunter also had a brief spell at the crease and finally Parkerman and Lawrence won the game for the boys who thoroughly deserved the victory especially the bowlers who were amazing throughout their spells and the fielding was Johnty Rhodes esq.
Well done to the whole team!!!!
Thanks also to Mrs Hunter and her teas!!!!!!

Catford & Cyphers v OD Cuaco Sunday friendly
Joey 51. Liam Bullock 2-30
With the team still looking for their first win the skipper decided to take a break from captaining but did still play and this allowed vice-capt Marc Woods step up. Woodsy made his first brave move which was to bat first.
Worsley and Bond opened the batting and it didn't take long for the runs to start flowing on a quick wicket. A few early appeals which were turned down much to the surprise of the oppo, even point seemed to explain how an LBW was out to which the umpire (Simon) told him where to go...........specsavers. Worsley was the first to go chasing a wide ball. Drinks safely came and went with the friendly team 80-1. Ross Bond on a sizzling 9 after 20 overs. The excuse being that Worsley and Joey were both very quick on the 6th ball of each over!!!!! Soon wickets began to fall and it was left to our overseas player to give us a respectable score of 174. Joey scoring 51.
Liam Bullock and Joey opened the bowling and with Joey trying his best to knock out the opening batsman (who was 13) it didn't take long for the boys to pick up wickets. Liam Bullock bowled superbly. With wickets tumbling and the fielding like lightning the morale of the team picked up. Marc Woods took what can only be described as one of the best athletic catches ever!!!!
The boys finally won the game in the 32 over bowling the oppo out for just 140. The bowlers all bowled well Simon Hunter, Joey, Liam Bullock, Jake Owen, Billy Rouse and Nick Worsley a great effort in very hot conditions.
I would personally like to thank Marc Woods for captaining the team he made some very brave and difficult decisions with a young team, and those decisions certainly helped the team to victory. Possibly a future league captain?
Thanks should also go to Jake Owen (under 13) playing his first adult game and taking his first wicket too!
Well done the boys, no game next week so have a well earned rest!!!
OD cuaco Sunday team v Petts Wood
With another star struck team including Worsley, Woods, Mew and of course Bondy, the Sunday boys were ready for another challenge this week a slightly different challenge of Petts Wood. The skipper lost yet another toss and we were put in to bat. We lost and early wicket but Bondy (33) and Hunter. L (43) put the team back in ascendancy. Soon more wickets fell and a good partnership between Mew and Worsley took the boys past 150 and then a quick cameo from Woodsy put us on 164 and the skipper decided he'd seen enough!!!
The teas were guzzled down much to the disappointment of the spectators in the bar.
Marc Woods and youngster Liam Bullock bowled superb opening spells with Woods taking 3 wickets. A superb run out with good fielding from Hunter.S and Joey suddenly had ODs looking odds on favourites but Petts Wood decided to bat out for a draw very early on. This frustrated the bowlers but Nick Worsley bowled very well against two brick walls. Nick managed to also take three wickets. Even with Hunter.L's mickey mouse bowling the batsman saw off the overs and snatch a draw.
I spose we should mention that Sam Carp made an appearance for the team and didn't bat but was put in as a specialist fielder and managed to drop a simple lopping catch.
Well played to everyone see you next week away at Catford Cyphers.
Thanks must also go to Mrs Hunter for fantastic teas!!!!!

Sunday friendly XI at HSBC
The first game of the season for the friendly side was away to HSBC. The usual few made them selves available and we were also joined by a few first team stars. Aaron White, our overseas player Yusef (joey) and Graham Ward.
When we arrived it looked as though the oppo had heard of our 1st team stars and decided to pack their team with strong and talented players including their New Zealand overseas player.
We lost the toss and were put in the field. A strong start from Brownie and Yusef seeing us take two early wickets one for both openers. Billy Rouse then almost made a significant break through when the new zealander cannoned the ball towards mid off.................Steve Smith!!!!! Of course we all know what happens when the ball goes toward him, however this time he put the catch down and dropped the player who went on to score 91 (just to rub it in he was only on 25). Aaron White took the opportunity to take a few 'cheap wickets' with some great bowling he took 4 wickets possibly could have had 5 if the skipper had not snatched at a chance in gully. Simon made up for his drop with a catch the very next over in the deep off Yusef's bowling.
The oppo finally finished 210 for 8.
After an unusually splendid tea. The deadly duo of Steve Smith and Ross Bond took opened the batting. Bondy struggled to score runs and after getting just 3 off 12 overs he made a wild swing and was bowled. Smith had more luck scoring a quick 30 odd. Yusef and Aaron White batted well together and put the team in a strong position needing just 100 from 10 overs. Unfortunately the team lost quick wickets Yogi going for 30 and Yusef scored a strong 55. We batted well and eventually finished 160 for 7. The boys must be congratulated as I can't think of a stronger oppo the team have faced in my 3yrs as captain. They certainly did not disgrace themselves and was a very impressive performance by the whole team.
Thank you to our supports woodsy and a couple of WAGs (scuse the slang!)
The boys are now raring to go for next week, if anyone else fancies a game this Sunday please email Simon Hunter (see fixture card for email address) Only requirement is to have some good banter!!!!!
Good luck this Saturday to everyone.
