T20 v Hayes (Kent) CC
Scorecard
Our young side, average age less than 20 (probably), were put into bat by a very strong Hayes T20 team and after a slow start and the loss of a couple of wickets and the retirement of D.Smedley (after being dropped by Eddicott on purpose), Chris Webster put Hayes to the sword. Partners came and went but Chris batted brilliantly for his 43 off 29 balls and by the time he holed out to long off the course (and pace) of the game had well and truly been altered - we reached 105-8 off our 20 overs overs also courtesy to some ropey Hayes fielding. A tricky total in fast fading light (the game started at 6.30!).
Hayes started their reply solidly but unspectacularly with only one boundary in the powerplay thanks to some sharp fielding and miserly bowling. The introduction of Iestyn Caddy and Chris Webster to the attack brought 4 wickets, one as a result of a fine catch from Jake Caddy whereby the ball appeared to be going over his head head at long off. With 41 needed off 36 balls and opener Beau Couldrey still at the crease, the game was nicely poised. Some more good bowling from Ainger, Lake and Captain Worsley kept us in the game, however a couple of missed run out chances and a bit of luck turned the game in Hayes' direction. Hayes eventually edged over the line with 6 balls to spare, largely thanks to Beau's 59 n.o. off 55 balls.
Our guys should be proud of the way we competed with more experienced opposition from a higher league, our fielding was better and our bowling comparable to theirs, however our batting just wasn't good enough. We will be back, stronger, next year.
Thanks go to H for umpiring, Sheila for keeping score and all those who came along to support.
