ODCUACO U-12 v Old Wilsonians U-12 22 May 2015
Scorecard
We won the toss (unusual for us) and elected to bat. Things did not start off well with 3 wickets falling in the first 3 overs. Although Jamie played one delicious shot for 4 things didn’t get much better as we lost a further 4 wickets to leave us 21-7 in the 9th over. Thank god for Noah who helped us to both stop losing wickets at such a rate as well as start to score. With Henry and Alex O he managed to get us up to 54 before falling to a caught and bowled for 12. We were finally all out for 59. Some thought should be given to Alex O who received a nasty ball on the chin from OW’s fastest bowling and despite being shaken up continued playing on - well done and very brave. Overall it was pretty disappointing to lose 9 wickets bowled (only Noah was not bowled). We certainly had a mixture of experienced and inexperienced players and OW had 3 district-level fast bowlers. However it is essential to be able to bat out the overs in these matches and our more experienced players should be looking to bat 10+ overs in these matches.
We obviously needed to take wickets if we were going to have any chance of winning and Luxan delivered 2 wickets in his first over. Jamie was also close to picking up a couple of LBWs. However OWs number 3 was a particularly powerful hitter and on our small ground it was difficult to stop him scoring. William delivered some hope with an inspired spell that resulted in 3 wickets in 4 balls. When the hat-trick ball hit the pad naturally everyone went up for the appeal but in all honesty it wasn’t that close to being out. Without a further wicket and unable to stem the scoring OWs won in 12 overs by 5 wickets.
