U13s at Horton Kirby 15/7
Scorecard
OD won the toss and took the field on a hot sunny evening. Eliott Avis and William Black opened the bowling but were unable to restrain Horton's aggressive opening batsmen until Elliot had one trapped comprehensively LBW. Good spells from Sam de Vaux and Jonny Thompson was eventually rewarded with a sprawling catch behind by wicketkeeper Joe East to a very wide ball from Jonny. The highlight of the innings was a great spell of spin bowling from under-9 William East who was on a hat trick and ended with figures of 4-1-21-2. Horton continued to score quickly however and ended on 148-6. The closing overs included 2nd wickets for both Elliot Avis and Jonny Thompson courtesy of great catches from Jay Gatward and Harry Dumcomb.
The total was probably 15-20 runs more than was comfortable and the OD innings got off to the worst possible start when Eliott Avis was run out for 2. Sam de Vaux (24) and Joe East (25*) proceeded to put on a 50 partnership which for a while kept us up with the scoring rate. However some very accurate bowling and athletic fielding reined things in so that by the end of the 16th over the required rate was approach 10 runs per over. William Chaston added some lusty blows in a knock of 14 but we ended 106-5, comfortably short of the target.

U13s at OldElthamians 21/6
Scorecard
Old Elthamians batted first and very few of our bowlers were able to exert control over the batsmen. OEs proved to have a powerful if unsophisticated batting line-up which they used to full advantage on a pitch of variable bounce. Sam de Vaux experienced the best and worst of this, hit for 6 on his second ball and conceding 12 runs from his first over did not augur well. However his next over was a maiden including 5 play-and-miss shots outside the off-stump - excellent bowling. His final figures were 4-1-14-0 which were the most economical of the innings. William Black (1-17) and Elliot Avis (2-19) bowled accurately and took wickets. Chris Newton (1-30) and Jonny Thompson (1-37) also took wickets but mixed it up with too much width. The fielding was some of the best I've seen from this team and William Black and Harry Dumcomb each took a difficult catch (Harry making his look deceptively easy), Rikin Parikh took a much easier catch (is there such a thing?) and was unlucky to be no-balled after hitting middle with his first ball.
After all this though OE reach 168-5 which was an imposing total. Without similar hitting power in our batting lineup it was always going to be an unlikely target and so it proved as wickets fell regularly to reach 27-6. At this point Sam de Vaux arrived at the crease to play a well-judged innings of 19 and took us to 3 batting points with the support of Jonny Thompson (9) and Rikin Parikh (0*). We ended on 81 with Sam last out bowled going for a big swing.

Report from U13s home to Bexleyheath
Scorecard
"It was a dark and stormy night".... or was when this game finished with Bexleyheath winning by 24 runs.
An early wicket found our U13's with their tails up but 'heath received a lot of "4 balls " which they put away enabling them to reach a hundred for 4 when they promptly lost 5 wickets for 1 run, Joe East and William Black bowling superbly. William took 4 wickets in five balls including a hat-trick in one over ending with 3 Overs 2 maidens 5 runs 4 wickets. The value of a 'good length' never being more aptly shown. Unfortunately their number 5 was able to return after the fall of the ninth wicket and plundered 18 to set a stiff target for OD Cuaco of 122 to win.
The run of the game quickly favoured Bexleyheath when both our openers were out in the first over of our reply, both bowled by a Frisbee ! Captain Elliot Avis and James Berry put together a partnership of 42 before James was dismissed for 16. Avis went on to 26 before being retired. Then Sam de Vaux and Connor Goulds ran well between the wickets in a lively partnership but were just unable to secure a fourth batting point finishing on 97 -3.
Thanks are due to both sides' parents for watching in the dark and cold but especially to Bob Lake for umpiring and Mike Berry for scoring.

Home to Catford Cyphers
Scorecard
The opposition lost the toss and captain Elliot Avis elected to bowl. After a few early wayward balls ODs bowled accurately and fielded well but couldn't find an early dismissal. After a flurry of boundaries in the middle of the innings (some good striking by the number 3 batsman), we were able to impose some control and take wickets at the end with Elliot taking 2 wickets in his last over. The target of 94 was a good reward for generally bowling accurately and trying to keep no balls and wides to a minimum.
Some good, accurate opening fast bowling was well defended by the openers, with Joe East going on to retire on 26. Sam de Vaux played an aggressive hard-hitting knock of 10 which took us to the brink of victory, however a late flurry of wickets and tight bowling meant we reached the last ball with the scores tied and 2 new batsmen at the crease. A scrambled bye to the wicket keeper meant that we won the match in exciting circumstances. Well done to everyone.
