U13's vs Old Elthamians Monday 1st June
Scorecard
On a very blustery and chilly evening OD's turned in one of their best performances of the season so far. Returning skipper Will Black won the toss and decided to bowl first. Stephen Barratt took the gloves for the very first time and did an absolutely fantastic job behind the stumps which included taking the first catch. Both Will and Finlay Irvine had good opening spells before Joe East and Sam De Vaux followed suit. Ashley Lawrence and Oliver Jasper also bowled well, although all bowlers from both sides struggled for control at times in the strong wind.
Old Elthamians looked a good batting side but were kept down to a total of 114.
Johnny Thompson and Joe opened the batting with Johnny especially looking to score quite quickly before retiring on 25.Will and Sam continued where the others left of with Sam scoring a very quick 25 (retired). Jude Muduroglu joined his captain at the end to hit the winning runs with 3 overs to spare.
A great result that will hopefully be a stepping stone for the rest of the season.
Special thanks to Mark Irvine for umpiring and to Jane East for entering the result onto the league website. And thank you also to all the parents who braved the weather to stay and support the team, much appreciated.
Roll on next week!!

Blackheath U13 v OD Cuaco 6th May
Scorecard
On a rainy Friday evening the U-13 division 1 team had a fixture against a very tough Blackheath side. When we all arrived at the Blackheath ground it was drizzling and we all had to try and take all the covers off which was covered with water. Some water was spilled on the pitch (no names mentioned!!!) but luckily the game was only reduced to 16 overs. It didn’t start well when captain, Joe East, lost the toss and we went out to field. Finlay Irvine opened the bowling with Sam De Vaux and both bowled well but didn’t pick up a wicket. Joe and Jonny came on and were hit around a bit by the 2 openers. Ashley Lawrence, the new member of the team, bowled well and looked close to getting the first wicket. Stephen Barratt bowled very straight but their openers both retired in his 2 overs. Finally we picked up the first wicket off Ollie Jasper’s bowling. Blackheath set off for a quick run but Sam got it quickly into Louis Boyden at wicketkeeper and he whipped of the bails. Andrew McLennan bowled 2 good overs to stop them getting 130+ and Finlay finished of with an over, only going for 5 runs. They ended up on 111 for 1.
We started badly, as Sam got run out going for the second run and Ashley got stumped off the first ball the spin bowler delivered. This had Jonny and Joe at the crease. Jonny batted well and very quickly as he ticked over the scoreboard at a decent rate. On the other hand Joe took his time to get going, taking 24 balls to get into double figures. Jonny hit the best shot of the game, an on drive for 4, and then picked up a two before he failed to run his bat in at the end of a quick single got him 1 short of his first retirement for Od’s. Finlay came to the crease and stuck around with Joe to get us past the 3rd batting point. In the last over we reached it. Some aggressive running from Joe and Finlay picked up a single off every ball including 2 byes and off the last ball, Joe slog swept the slower bowler over mid wicket for a 4. The match ended disappointingly with only getting 3 points in the match but they probably were the strongest side in the Division.
