Old Wilsonians away 20th July
The last game of the season always looked like being a challenge for the Under 15s away at Old Wilsonians. The home side was hoping for a good win to clinch the Divison 2 title and our team was missing several key players, not least Captain, opening bowler and batsman Callum McLennan.
Batting first on a cloudy morning, the OWs got off to a solid start despite the valiant efforts of regular opener Jake Owen and young Joe East, who was in no way daunted by the big task. However the score reached 49 before the first wicket fell, to a smart catch by Jacob Olorenshaw off the bowling of his mate Tom Boyden. In the next over, the opening bat was clean bowled by Sam deVaux, who bowled a really good spell, returning figures of one for 20 from his four overs. William Black added to the wicket tally bowling out their No.4 and running out No.3, but runs were still mounting steadily.
Finlay Irvine bowled well and Harry Duncumb was great value for his one over, conceding just three runs. The bowlers were ably assisted by the new kid behind the stumps, a big welcome to fearless Henry Hamilton. A fantastic performance for his first game for the U15s. OWs finished on 143 for 4 and, especially on such a big pitch, it was a big ask for the lads to chase.
Opening batsmen Jake Owen and Tom Boyden found it hard to score freely. After eight overs they were both still at the crease but only 14 runs were on the board. Tom was eventually bowled for a battling 12, while Jacob anchored the innings until being caught on 41. Top scorer last week, Tom McBrown was bowled for two and the only other batsman to make it to double figures was Jacob Olorenshaw with 10.
All the batsmen showed great spirit, particularly the younger ones, and after Joe East was LBW, Henry Hamilton and Sam deVaux remained not out to thwart the home team's title bid. At the end, 90 for 5 may not have been enough to win the game but given the relative ages (and disparate sizes) of the teams it was a highly respectable result. Well done lads, thanks for a great season and enjoy the summer.

Bexley home 13/7
Scorecard
The last home game for the under 15s started drizzly and damp, and after winning the toss captain Callum McLennan decided to bowl first against Bexley B. Conditions for batting were not ideal, and with tight bowling from Callum and Jake Owen the visitors scored slowly. First change were Elliot Avis, who was tidy taking one for 16, and Tom Boyden who despite being a little erratic took two for 19. The opposition batsmen stuck to their task doggedly amongst the showers, and at the break had managed to amass 131 for 6, despite the best bowling efforts of Jacob Olorenshaw, James Berry and Harry Duncumb.
As the morning wore on the showers were fewer and the sun was brighter, so it's fair to say that batting conditions were getting easier, but unfortunately our boys didn't all make it seem that way. The normally reliable Callum McLennan chipped one up to sqare leg for nought and at number three Tom Boyden managed only one more. Jacob and Elliot added seven between them, and batsmen 7, 8, 9 10 and 11 put on 5 in total. Batting at number two Jake Owen got a battling 18 before being run out, and top scorer at 20 not out was the recently returned Tom McBrown. All this saw the O.D.s boys all out for just 69 - down but not downhearted.

Blackheath away 8th June
Scorecard
Another beautiful sunny morning and the boys were keen to get a victory after the poor showing last week. Batting first Blackheath got off to a good start and the runs flowed, then a perfectly delivered ball by captain Callum McLennan bowled one of the openers and wickets started to fall. Enter a six foot tall lad for Blackheath named Jacob who could pass for a young Curtly Ambrose and despite decent bowling from the O.D.s lads the runs came quickly. Jacob duly got his 50 and retired, but the other batsmen proved less able and the home team were all out for 145. Pick of the bowling were Callum with 2 for 20, Finlay Irvine with 2 for 21 and Harry Doncumb with 2 for 10.
In reply Jake Owen started things off in his usual style, hitting a huge six in the first over. When he was bowled for 20 it was left to Callum to play the anchor role, which he duly did, eventually being caught for 39. Tom Boyden ( who also stepped in as wicket keeper) played well for his 16, but the boys fell ever futher behind the required rate. With only two overs to go and plenty of runs still needed the Blackheath bowlers almost managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by bowling wide after wide, and on the very last ball of the game James Berry found himself needing exactly six to win. Could this be his big moment of sporting glory? A mighty swing and a miss and the wicket was broken along with O.D.'s hearts. So ended an enjoyable, close game.
Thanks to Andrew Mclennan, Louis Boyden and Johnny Thompson for stepping up from younger divisions, and Elliot Avis and William Chaston for their excellent all 'round efforts.

Beckenham away 1st June
Scorecard
On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning the u.15's took on Beckenham, and having lost the toss were put into bat. Jake Owen opened up for us and the first over went like this; dot, four, dot, huge six into the tennis courts, dot, out lbw. After that things went downhill. The only batsman to make double figures was James Berry with eleven, and a hapless innings closed with overs to spare with the boys all out for just 73.
After the break the Beckenham openers batted well and the target was soon in sight. Our one and only wicket was a caught and bowled by Callum McLennan, and the home team eased home in only eleven overs.
So a morning to forget for the Under 15's, but all to play for next week away at Blackheath.
Thanks are due to Connor Goulds for stepping in as wicket keeper, and commiserations to Harry Deans who is out for at least six weeks with a badly cut finger. Get well soon.

Dartfordians home, 18/5
Scorecard
On a hot, sunny morning the under 15's batted first against Dartfordians without usual opener Jake Owen. Captain Callum McLennan took the first ball and was soon into his stride, but without his usual opening partner he probably felt the need to play a careful anchor role, which he did extremely well. While wickets fell around him he led the way, eventually retiring on 52 not out, with eight fours. Of the other batsmen Jacob Olorenshaw added 11, and Harry Deans got a quickfire 9, including two fours. Johnny Thompson and Jay Gatward looked good closing the innings with five and four respectively, both not out.
The innings closed at 110 for five and the boys were quietly confident of making it three wins out of three. However with only ten players and missing Jake Owen's pacy bowling it was never going to be easy. Up until the drinks break at 12 overs things went O.D's way with wickets falling at regular intervals and the runs coming slowly. Callum and Harry both took wickets, Callum ending with figures of 4 for 17, and Tom Boyden had a good spell, taking a wicket with his first ball. At the drinks interval the opposition were 56 for 6 and our lads were firm favourites. Batsmen 7 and 8 though were having none of it, M Patel scoring 17 before being bowled by Callum, and L. Weller adding 30 not out.
A tight finish was a fitting end to a close game, Dartfodians winning with two wickets to spare. Thanks are due to debutants Finlay Irvine and Andrew McLennan for stepping in, both of whom showed great promise.

U15 home to Catford Wanderers 11/5
Scorecard
The u.15 team achieved another comfortable win on Sunday to make it played two, won two so far. Batting first the regular opening pair of Jake Owen and Callum McLennan soon got into their stride and piled the runs on.
They both eased their way to 50 to make room for young Joe East and Harry Deans. Harry made a splendid 16 not out and it was not until the very last over that Catford claimed their only wicket, when Joe was caught and bowled for 12. O.D.s had made 169 for 1 and were suitably confident.
In reply the Catford batsmen were determined, but wickets soon fell. All ten available players were used in the O.D.'s bowling attack, seven of whom took wickets. Jake Owen managed 3 for 17, and in his first game this season Jay Gatward took two in his one over.
Catford finished 123 all out in the 22nd over, and another good win was sealed.
